For Santa Cruz Local, community engagement means building a trust-based relationship with you. We want to understand your needs to guide our reporting then connect you with information to strengthen our community.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU: We want to be in tune with the community’s questions, concerns and priorities. We want to base our reporting on your needs.

WHO: You! We want to reach our entire Santa Cruz County community. We want to make sure we’re reaching Santa Cruz Local members and nonmembers. And we need your help!

WHY: We want to build a relationship with you so you can help guide our reporting, we can earn your trust and our work can be most valuable to you. We want to build an ongoing, two-way conversation with you, our listeners and readers.

HOW: We ask questions through surveys and follow-up interviews and our newsletter, podcast and website. Your responses help guide our reporting. We attend and host community events to get to know you better.

EXPECTATIONS: We want our journalism to be responsive to you, but we want to be realistic about this as well. We’re still a small shop, so we have to be selective about our reporting. If we hear a lot of similar questions or concerns we’re more likely to address them with a story.
