- Cabrillo College trustees on Nov. 4, 2024 are expected to select a developer for a 625-bed student housing proposal on one of the college’s soccer fields. The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at the Sesnon House at Cabrillo College, 6500 Cabrillo College Drive.
- If Cabrillo trustees and the California Division of the State Architect approve the project,
- construction could start as soon as November 2025 and finish in 2027, said Cabrillo College President Matt Wetstein.
Project description
- Total units: 271 units were proposed in a 2023 student housing feasibility study.
- Below-market-rate units: All the units are expected to be rented below market rate to students of Cabrillo College and UC Santa Cruz
- Height: Four or five stories, Wetstein said in October 2024.
- Details: The 2023 document describes a building with three wings, 271 housing units and 624 beds. No new parking spaces were proposed.
“Depending on which developer we go with, there will be between 20 and 25 family units for students with children,” Wetstein said in October 2024. “There will also be a child care center included in the construction costs as well, so about 50 kids ranging from infants to toddlers could be at the on-site center,” he said.
