A section of sewer pipe from Kaiser Permanente Arena to Neary Lagoon is expected to be replaced this summer. Sewer work is also anticipated on the east side of the San Lorenzo River near Mike Fox Park.
Status
- Construction is expected to begin in early July and continue until September 2024. Summer is the most efficient time to conduct this work because of lower indoor water use and lack of rain, city staff wrote in a statement.
- Some traffic delays are expected 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July through September.
- A “low hum” is expected from 24-hour pumps.
- Parking is expected to be reduced at Mike Fox Park near construction areas.
Project description
Santa Cruz Public Works is expected to replace a section of the largest sewer pipe in the City of Santa Cruz that flows into the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 110 California St. The project is estimated to cost $4.7 million.
“As the pipe approaches the end of its operational life, its replacement is essential to maintain efficient wastewater treatment,” city staff wrote.
A section from Kaiser Permanente Arena at 140 Front St. to Neary Lagoon will be replaced.
