SANTA CRUZ >> The Santa Cruz County Supervisors on Tuesday are expected to consider 47 property rezones that would allow more homes in Aptos, Live Oak, Soquel, Seascape and on Green Valley Road.
California authorities require cities and counties to plan for more housing because of the state’s housing shortage.
Last year, county officials updated the Housing Element, a plan to allow more housing over the next eight years. Now, they are set to consider changing the county’s zoning rules to align with the plan.
The proposed changes would allow taller buildings and denser housing. They follow several other rezones approved in December.
Maps show potential rezones near Brommer Street in Live Oak, Clubhouse Drive in Rio Del Mar, Mar Vista Drive in Aptos, Green Valley Road near Watsonville and other areas.

Open space zoning near Mar Vista Drive and Highway 1 in Aptos could change to allow housing. (County of Santa Cruz)
