SANTA CRUZ >> Starting Monday, the Murray Street Bridge over the Santa Cruz harbor is expected to close to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians and remain closed through January.
The bridge is being upgraded for earthquake safety, sewer upgrades and bike and pedestrian safety in a $50 million project.
- The eastbound lane is expected to reopen to drivers and cyclists in February, Santa Cruz City Manager Matt Huffaker wrote in a statement.
- The westbound lane will remain closed until the project’s expected finish in January 2028.
- The bridge is expected to reopen to pedestrians in February 2026.
“These dates may change depending on project needs and utility work by PG&E and Comcast,” Huffaker wrote Friday. “These measures ensure public safety during potentially dangerous working conditions.”
Drivers will be detoured to Seabright, Seventh and Soquel avenues. Cyclists will be detoured to Seabright Avenue, Broadway, Arana Gulch and Seventh Avenue. Pedestrians will be detoured around the north part of the harbor.
