SANTA CRUZ >> On Nov. 4, voters in the City of Santa Cruz will consider two tax initiatives: Measure B and Measure C.

Both measures would create a new tax on property sales and an annual property tax for property owners. But the two differ in the size of the tax and what it can be spent on.

  • Measure B, authored by a local group of real estate agents, includes a lower tax that can be spent on affordable housing and homelessness services, plus repairs for roads and the Santa Cruz Wharf.
  • Measure C, authored by a group of nonprofits, advocates and Santa Cruz Mayor Fred Keeley, includes a larger tax that can be spent only on affordable housing and homelessness services.

Read on for more information on the taxes, supporters, campaign finance and more at Santa Cruz Local’s election guide.

Editor’s note: Santa Cruz Local will be closely following this election and the statewide special election on Proposition 50, which all Santa Cruz County voters will consider.
